In the main, adult romantic partner choice & selection is no accident.  Schema chemistry (a termed coined by Jeff Young (Young & Klosko, 1993; Young et al., 2007) refers to the intense feeling we have when we develop a romantic connection with a person who has the potential to ‘wound’ us (emotionally) in the same way we were ‘wounded’ in childhood (by our attachment figures).

It relates to the tendency we have to be more romantically attracted to those people who will trigger and reinforce our schemas (or deeply held beliefs about ourselves).  However, schema-driven relationships can also be platonic in nature, including friendships and work relationships.

This webinar will cover the following topics

      • What is Schema Chemistry and what does it feel like?
      • Understanding the lineage & history of the concept
      • An overview of the nature of schema-driven relationships
      • The role of vulnerable child modes in the activation of schema chemistry
      • Commonly encountered relationship dynamics (i.e., common schema interactions)
      • Assisting clients to understand their relationship/dating history from a schema & schema-interaction perspective
      • Reducing the mystery for clients around why they ‘attract’ and ‘stay with’ certain partners and a sense of hope and empowerment for being able to change their future relationship path.
      • Some strategies to assist clients to break familiar & engrained patterns when dating and assessing the suitability of a new or potential partner
      • Q&A on the topic with Gemma Gladstone and Justine Corry
